It does not replace a complete well-water treatment plan or certify drinking-water safety. Scale and spotting can be useful reasons to investigate hardness, but measure the water instead of guessing from the city or the appearance of a fixture. If disinfectant taste or drinking-water quality is a separate concern, ask about the appropriate filtration stage rather than expecting the softener to solve everything.
Sizing and settings are part of installation
Ask how hardness, household use and peak flow informed the equipment choice and regeneration settings. A maximum grain-capacity number is not a complete design. Efficient operation depends on the selected salt dose, reserve and actual water demand. A well-water installation may need pretreatment when raw water would foul the resin or interfere with operation. The provider should explain the expected salt and water use, available bypass and how the treated-water result will be checked at startup.
Replacement or repair?
